National Honor for Local ATV Organization

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo – The Western Slope ATV Association is receiving national recognition for its hours of volunteer work within Mesa County.

The National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council chose from a pool of potential organizations spanning across the United States and Canada, and the Grand Junction-based chapter was honored as the Club of the Year.

“We’re extremely active,” said club president Steve Chapel. “We produce approximately 4,500 volunteer hours every year for the Forest Service, and another 1,500 to 2,000 hours a year for the BLM and probably another 1,000 hours a year for Search and Rescue.”

The WSATVA has been around since 1987, and Chapel said this is the first national award they’ve ever received.
