GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — No charges are being filed against Mesa County Health Department’s Executive Director Jeff Kuhr, who is accused of misusing his work credit card.

Court documents provided to Western Slope Now by the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office allege Kuhr failed to document required details when he charged business lunches with state and other officials. Kuhr also rallegedly used his work credit card to buy prepaid VISA gift cards used to buy alcohol for an employee appreciation event.

Mesa County rules prohibit any purchase of alcohol on a government issued credit card.

An independent audit uncovered the receipts and directed the findings to the District Attorney’s office. District Attorney Dan Rubinstein informed Western Slope Now Kuhr paid back around $300 with personal funds. DA Rubinstein then advised county officials against pressing charges.

Kuhr led mesa county through the pandemic and the GJ Chamber of Commerce named Kuhr Citizen of the Year in 2021.
