Safe holiday cooking advised by local fire department

News

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Firefighters know better than anyone: reports of house fires and smoking kitchens go up during the holidays. Most of these emergencies are preventable — but only with your help and attention.

“It’s also important to model safe fire behavior for kids this holiday season and that means as parents and adults, making sure that matches and lighters are out of reach for them and they’ve got proper supervision so they’re not starting accidental fires out of curiosity,” GJFD Community Outreach Specialist Ellis Thompson-Ellis points out.

Other tips include focusing on the task at hand and only using space heaters when in the room; plugged, directly into the outlet, not using an extension cord.

Your local first responders are on duty every day and will be there to alleviate the emergency.
