GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – About 3 thousand Americans died that day; 400 of them were police officers, firefighters, and paramedics trying to help those that were trapped in the Twin Towers.
“It’s about honoring the past but it’s also recognizing our heroes today,” Scenic Elementary School Teacher Dan Worth expresses, “We also like to make sure we are recognizing our military. For 20 years, they’ve been fighting terrorism overseas and thousands have lost their lives.”
While the school’s current student body was not around when the tragedy happened, students are still impacted after researching the events.
“All those people helped us,” Fifth Grader Amelia reflects, “Even though they knew it could cost them their lives, they ran into those towers, trying to help at all of those innocent people. The terrorists, they did that trying to make Americans feel weak and afraid, but it did the opposite to us.”
