St. Mary’s Hospital thanks first responders with desserts

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – St. Mary’s Medical Center continues in its fourth year of hosting events to serve first responders who stop by. Frontline workers entering the emergency room get stopped during a free moment with desserts between performing duties.

The interaction is just a few seconds but makes a world of difference for both sides of the gesture.

“I can see it on their faces, the smile they have once they get just the simple gesture of someone taking the time out of their day to say thank you, to give them a treat, and acknowledge the hard work that they’re doing,” St. Mary’s Food and Nutrition Director Jennie Blackwelder reflects, “Having that interaction with them is rewarding on my end too.”

For SCL Health and St. Mary’s, our community’s first responders are our heroes. Regardless of how appreciation is expressed, what matters most is getting the message across.
