GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Lunch Lizard, School District 51’s mobile summer food program, continues for its ninth summer feeding students under 18 years old. It will run Monday through Thursday each week until July 27th. Excluding the week of the 4th of July.

Pandemic era waivers for grab-n-go meals expired this week. Now students must eat all meals on sight. The good news is on Thursdays, Kids Aid or Food Bank of the Rockies will step up with Lunch Lizard to offer take-home pantry food for the weekend.

Lunch Lizard represents an innovative way to cater to hungry kids who may face hard times accessing meals during the summer and its had a real impact. Over the summer months, D51 will also serve meals from 11am to 12:30pm in the cafeterias of six Mesa County schools: Dos Rios, Pear Park, Rocky Mountain, Chipeta, and Shelledy Elementary Schools plus Orchard Mesa Middle School.
