GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Someone vandalized the brand-new playground at Rocky Mountain Elementary School. Third graders who visited the park quickly noticed inappropriate drawings on one of the park’s slides including, Joaquin Moncada.
Moncada, a third grader at Rocky Mountain Elementary, worried about the impact the graffiti might have on other kids. Equipped with cleaning supplies, Moncada, his parents and his sister spent their own time removing graffiti from the playground. Moncada also took it upon himself to pick up trash in the park before leaving.
Moncada’s actions helped restore the playground to its original beauty. Commissioners awarded him a certificate of excellence and a commissioners’ coin in recognition of his outstanding initiative, community spirit, and dedication to preserving the integrity of Rocky Mountain Elementary Park. All of us here at KREX would like to congratulate Joaquin Moncada on his great efforts and his award.
