On this episode of Troy’s Terrific Trails, KREX 5 sports director Troy Lynch and JUCO play-by-play commentator and Grand Junction native, Blaine McCormcik set out to the Colorado National Monument to hike the No Thoroughfare Canyon trail.
The final destination is the second waterfall. It’s a two mile hike to the first waterfall which includes 610 feet of climbing. The climbing is not steep, as the trek to the first waterfall is rated as moderate.
However, to get to the second and final waterfall is where the trail becomes more difficult. After the first waterfall the path to get to the second is unmaintained. It will be harder to find the path, but follow the creek and the canyon and you can find the trail pretty easily.
It took Troy and Blaine roughly 2 to 2.5 hours to make it to the second waterfall, so make sure you have water and have plenty of time to hike. If you do plan on heading up to the second waterfall please be careful and make sure the weather conditions aren’t dangerous so you can be as safe as possible.
All in all, this was a great hike with a little bit of climbing, water, and great spots to have a picnic. Have fun!
