The #12 Colorado Mesa baseball team swept their first home opponent of the season Sunday, downing the MSU-Billings Yellowjackets in a doubleheader, 15-5 in Game 1 and 6-3 in Game 2.

Despite the scoreline, Mavericks starting pitcher in Game 1, Garrett Hutson was nearly unhittable for most of his start. Hutson threw 10 strikeouts, only allowing 1 hit through the first 5 innings. In the 6th with a 4-0 lead, Hutson allowed a two-run home run to Wyatt Setian. The Mavs rallied after a 4-4 tie game, scoring 11 runs in the final three innings to seal the win.

Mesa was led by the bat of Hunter Douglas in game two, with a leadoff home run in the 1st inning. The 1-2 relief punch of Nathan Wilson and Jahred Butler pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th inning (despite four walks from Wilson) to secure the sweep. Butler picked up his first save of the year.

The Mavericks move to 7-1 on the season following the sweep. The team heads on the road to Fresno, CA for a four-game series against Fresno Pacific University beginning February, 21st at 3:00 p.m.
