Grand Junction, CO (KREX) – Central Arizona beats Cowley (KS), 4-2 in the 2022 Alpine Bank JUCO World Series. Cowley got on the board first on a Connor Gore RBI single in the top of the first inning. But Central Arizona would answer with two runs in the bottom of the 1st on a Haden O’toole error at 2nd base. Cowley would get even in the 2nd on a Bryce Madron solo home run. Central Arizona would jump back in front on another error. This time it came in the outfield. Trey Newman would score and Central Arizona would have a 3-2 lead. Central Arizona would tack on one more in the 3rd, on a Dusty Garcia solo home run. That made it 4-2 and Central Arizona pitcher Shane Spencer would make it stick. He went, 6.1 innings pitched. Gave up 9 hits but only 2 runs. While striking out 5 and walking 2. Drew Sommers would close the show going 2.2 innings pitched, gave up 1 hit, and struck out 5 for the save. Cowley’s Grant Adler went 5.2 innings in a losing cause. He struck out 7 and gave up 4 runs but only 2 of those were earned.

This was the first time that two teams met in the championship game after losing the opening game of the tournament. This was also Central Arizona’s third consecutive trip to the championship game. They won it in 2019 but lost to Mclennan (TX) in 2021. Central Arizona has won 4 National Championships.
