CMU Softball Confident that it will Make National Tournament

Sports

After an unexpected two losses at the RMAC Tournament Championship, the Colorado Mesa softball team now has to wait to see if its going to the NCAA DII National Tournament.

The last time they missed the big dance was back in 2015 when the Mavericks went (33-23) on the season. In 2019, CMU eneded the season as RMAC regular season champions and a (45-9) overall record, and two of those losses came during the conference tournament.

They have to be in the top eight of the NCAA regional rankings, and the last time the rankings were updated they had CMU at No. 6.

However, head coach Erik Kozel likes his odds on making it to the tourney in his first year of being the head coach.

“I feel fairly confident, so I’m not really nervous,” Kozel said. “As far as moving on from that never really nervous.”

The Mavericks will find out if they are “in” Monday morning, May 6 at 8:00 a.m.
