Both CMU Basketball teams found themselves at the top of the RMAC pile Saturday. The Women’s team grabbed a 60-48 win over Westminster College earning the program’s second straight RMAC Tournament title. The Men’s team did work in St. George, UT, topping Colorado School Of Mines 69-61.
The Lady Mavs started the second half of Saturday’s game slowly. Having its 32-25 halftime lead widdled down to a three-point deficit to end the third quarter. But in the fourth the Mavs, led by Daniella Turner (11 4th Qtr. points) and Kylyn Rigsby (10 4th Qtr. points), took over. CMU outscored the Griffins 22-7 in the final stanza. Helping lift the Lady Mavs to its second RMAC Tournament Championship in as many years.
The Men’s team’s 0-7 Tournament finals record is now 1-7 after Saturday’s win over Colorado Mines. The Mavs Scoring load was shouldered by Michael Skinner (19 points), Tommy Nuno (18 points), and Ethan Richardson (18 points). Not only was the RMAC Tournament Championship up for grabs, but also an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament; a place both CMU programs will be featured.
