Delta Back in the State Tournament

For the second time in the last three years the Delta Panthers Baseball team is back in the state tournament.

The Panthers are 15-6 overall but got hot at the right time as they have won their last eight games, while scoring nine or more runs in each contest. Their last trip in 2016 was with a much younger squad, but now the coaches and players seem to have more confidence than two years ago.

"The first time we made it two years ago we were happy getting there," head coach Steve Reiher said. "It had been so long since we'd been there we were excited about making it to the state tournament.

"This year there's a different feel. These guys want to win, it's not about just getting there. It's about winning it, not only for Delta but for the Western slope and all the small communities."

Their journey to the state title continues at 10:00 a.m. this Friday in Niwot, CO against the University Bulldogs. University is 19-2 on the season with its last loss coming on April 27th.
