Manning vs. Luck, Part III

Denver Broncos
DENVER, Colo. — It’s time for the real season, as the Denver Broncos are calling it. If that’s the case, the Broncos’ opening matchup is no appetizer, but the big entree.

It’s Andrew Luck versus Peyton Manning, part III.

Luck led the Indianapolis Colts to an 11-5 record and a second consecutive AFC South title this season. The Colts took down the Cincinnati Bengals 26-10 in the AFC Wild Card round, setting up a matchup with the man Luck replaced in Indy.

As for Luck’s counterpart, this isn’t Peyton’s first time facing his former team. Manning has played the Colts twice since signing with Denver, however, this will be the first time Manning plays the Colts in the postseason — or, the real season.

The first Manning-Luck matchup was in 2013, Manning’s second season in Denver, and Robert Mathis and the Colts defense got after Peyton all night long, sacking him four times and picking him off once. Meanwhile, Luck had a hand in all four of the Colts touchdowns that night — three through the air, one on the ground — and the Colts spoiled Manning’s return to Indianapolis, winning 39-33. That also happened to be the Broncos first loss of the 2013 season.

Part II went in the Broncos favor, in week one of the 2014 season in Denver. The offensive line gave Peyton a lot more time, and he went to work, throwing for three scores and no interceptions.

That sets the table for part three. Plenty to be excited about, and that game is Sunday in Denver. Kickoff is set for 2:40 pm, and will be aired on CBS.
