The trophy case keeps getting bigger for Colorado Mesa guard Jaylyn Duran. On Thursday, the senior was named the D2CCA South Central Regional Player of the Year.
On Wednesday, Duran was named to the region first team where four out of the five other players won conference player of the year honors.
Duran led the RMAC in scoring (18.7 points per game) and helped the Mavericks become conference regular season and tournament champions. She was also named national player of the week once during the season and won the conference player of the year to put the cherry on top.
She is the first Maverick to ever win this honor, however Sharaya Selsor was named the WBCA Player of the year back in 2014.
Duran is well on her way to becoming the sixth Maverick to earn All-American honors.
Mesa’s season continues as they host the South Central regional quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament Friday at 6:00 p.m. against (20-10) Texas A&M Commerce.
