Another round of baseball is right around the corner.
On Wednesday, the Grand Junction Rockies congregated at Suplizio Field to meet media members and season ticket holders. A number of fans also brought shirts and baseballs for the players to sign.
The Rookie-League Rockies are coming off a 38-38 2017 season, finishing third in the South Division of the Pioneer League. The Rockies also introduced a new face in the dugout, head coach Jake Opitz.
The field is great, the clubhouse is fine, [Grand Junction] is just fantastic," Opitz said. "Getting these guys acclimated has been my big thing. Being not too far removed from actually playing, I know what these guys are dealing with. And sometimes, it's not just baseball."
In a league that often shuffles young players up and down the farm system, the Rockies are retuning a fair amount of players to its 2018 roster. It's a trait to this team that some players think will lead to success in the upcoming season.
"Last year, all these guys experienced this [for the first time]. They were a little uncomfortable," utility player Todd Czinege said. "Their first season in pro ball, things like that. Coming back, it's nice to know the area and have that level of comfortability."
The Rockies first game will be against the Orem Owlz on Friday from Suplizio Field. The Rockies will be giving away City Market T-Shirts and will hold a fireworks show following the conclusion of the game. First pitch is at 6:40 p.m.
