The Colorado Mesa men's soccer team is heading to the big dance for the fifth straight season. The Mavericks ended the regular season (11-2-4) and made it to the RMAC tournament championship, but fell to No. 5 Colorado Mines 2-0.
But the ending to the season was good enough for another national tournament appearance and the Mavs will face a familiar foe. In the second round, CMU will play No. 6 Midwestern University for the fifth straight time and they have lost to the last four seasons.
"I think every time we've gone down there we've struggled with are we better than them," senior midfielder Kevin Del Mazo said. "If we go up to Texas and just know that we are the better team, and play with confidence then I think we can get the result."
But, the bad track record just gives the Mavericks more reason to win.
"I think this group is capable of more and I think they're hungrier for more," head coach Todd Padgett said. "So we are going to do what we can and work hard during training, get better this week, then go down to Texas and do our job."
The game is Sunday November 11, at 12:00 p.m.
