Fruita Baseball Clinches League Title With Win Over Tigers

For the 4th straight season, the Fruita Monument baseball team clinched the 5A/4A Southwestern League title, topping Grand Junction 11-6 Friday at Suplizio Field.

The Tigers held an early 6-4 lead on Fruita heading into the bottom of the 4th inning. An error from Junction in the bottom of the inning allowed Druw Sackett to score. The next batter, Zach Rush, took advantage of the extending inning, smashing a double to left-center and scoring Anthony Guadnola.

Fruita (13-4, 6-0 SWL) would score 5 in the 5th to pull away from the Tigers, and clinch the SWL title. The Tigers fall to 8-9 in 2018. Fruita wraps up their regular season with a two-game series against Durango beginning on May 4th. Junction will look to snap a two-game losing streak on the road at Montrose on May 1st.
