Fruita Monument Helping Grow ‘E-Sports’ in the Valley

Sports

Game ON!

E-Sports is getting big, and it’s here in Grand Junction and we didn’t even know it. Okay, some people knew it, but it’s becoming spreading through the state.

Colorado has 57 E-Sports teams that play the popular game, ‘League of Legends.’ The Fruita Monument high school team, Krugmeta, is ranked the third best team in the state and won their first round playoff match against Arvada West, Tuesday.

They were undefeated up until their last match before playoffs. They put together a very impressive season, and most other high schools around western Colorado have E-Sports teams as well.

Right now CHSAA has E-Sports going through a pilot league, which is basically a test-run to see if it’s popular enough to make it a sanctioned sport in the future.
