GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — “We can beat them.”

That’s what coach Adam Diaz told us last week. His confidence surprised us. But he and his team backed it up.

While the season didn’t the way the Wildcats had hoped (loss to Erie in semifinal) this season was nothing short of spectacular.

23-5 overall record.

Two wins in the state tournament.

And a whole lot of dingers.

After roaring past Eaglecrest in round one, Fruita met the tournament’s top overall seed Columbine.

And they found themselves down a run in the final inning. But battling adversity is nothing new for these cats. And with their backs against the wall, they delivered, scoring six runs in the 7th to take down the Rebels 11 to 6.

Congratulations to Fruita for their remarkable run. We hope you’ve enjoyed following along just as much as we’ve enjoyed covering it.
