For the first time in franchise history, the Grand Junction Rockies will be in the Pioneer League Championship series. Junction beat the Ogden Raptors in game three of the South Division Series, 6-5.
After a two-run loss on Saturday, the Rockies' bats were hot early on scoring six runs in the first two innings. Niko Decolati started the scoring in the first inning with a 2-RBI single. The John Cresto blasted a 2-run homerun in the second to continue the hit parade.
The Raptors fought their way back, making it a one run game in the sixth inning. But the bullpen stepped up from the sixth inning on.
Aneudy Duarte threw 1.1 innings through the eighth, giving up only one hit and striking out three.
Then, who else, but the new pioneer league save record holder, Alexander Martinez to close out the game. He struck out the first batter, made the second batter ground out to second, then finished the game making the third batter ground out to first.
The Rockies will now play in the Championship Series on Tuesday. It's the best two out of three game series and Tuesday's game will be at Supilzio Field with the first pitch at 6:40.
