An early-game offensive outburst, highlighted by Coco Montes's two home runs, led Grand Junction past the Ogden Raptors 8-7 Tuesday from Suplizio Field.
The Rockies fell behind 5-1 in the middle of the second inning. Junction's starting pitcher Eris Flipo (4-3) failed to get in a groove, surrendering a three run home run to Ogden's Matt Cogen to push the Raptors lead to four. Filpo finished the night with five earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts.
Junction's third baseman Coco Montes homered in his first two at-bats. Montes launched a solo home run to right first in the 1st innings, before driving home Hunter Stovall with a similar shot in the 2nd. Montes's blast capped off a five-run Rockies inning, a lead which held throughout the remainder of the game.
Grand Junction moves to 5-2 in the second half of the season, while Ogden falls to 4-3. The two teams will meet for the final game of the series Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. from Suplizio Field.
