GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Until we see Colorado Rockies’ 2015 top draft pick Brendan Rodgers in action, all the high praise he’s received as a highly-talented prospect is just lip service. Luckily, the wait to see him play ends Thursday night.
Rodgers will make his professional debut with the Grand Junction Rockies tonight against the Orem Owlz. Rodgers officially signed with the Rockies on June 17, and joined the rookie-level club on their season-opening road trip in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Since then, Rodgers has been taking practice reps with the team and soaking in all he can before tonight’s debut.
The Rockies didn’t make Rodgers available for comment prior to the game, but head coach Anthony Sanders said he wants to see his young stud have some fun in his first game as a pro.
“I know he’s been eager to play form day one since he got here, but we’re just taking it slow with him. [He’ll] get his fee wet tonight. [It’s an] exciting time for any young high school kid to come get his first professional game. I just want to see him go out there and relax and enjoy the moment. There’s nothing like your first and your last games that you get to play. I hope he has some success, but just have fun with it,” said Anthony Sanders, GJ Rockies Head Coach.
First pitch is at 7:05pm at Suplizio Field.
