Hot Bats and Great Pitching in Rox Shutout Win

Tank Blasts Two Homers in Return

The Grand Junction Rockies got their third shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over the Orem Owlz Friday night.

2018 second round pick Mitchell Kilkenny was fantastic in his eighth start of the season. He had a no-hitter through the first four innings, but ends with a stat-line of: one hit, one walk, five strikeouts, in five innings of work.

The one hitter was brought into the ninth, until the Owlz got two hits that didn’t turn into anything.

The run support started with three runs in the first inning when All-Star Christian Koss singled through the left side to score fellow All-Star Eddy Diaz from third.

Koss continues his offensive rampage with three hits. Two of them were doubles in which one was just inches from leaving the park. He also scored two runs on the night.

Colin ‘Tank’ Simpson had a triumphant return after missing the last four games due to an internal issue. Out of his three hits, two of them were homeruns, ending the game with 3 RBI and two runs.

His two homers puts him at 12 on the season which is second in the Pioneer League.

Brenton Doyle hit his fourth homerun of the season in the sixth inning right after one of Tank’s.

The Rockies improve to (5-2) in the second half, which keeps them tied for first in the Pioneer League South.

They have two more games before the All-Star break, both will be at Orem. Saturday’s game will start at 7:05 p.m.
