Just days after the 2018 Junior College World Series, a number of JUCO players began the next chapter of their playing career.
Monroe's Francisco Justo was selected in the 12th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He helped lead the Mustangs to their first JUCO World Series in program history. Justo was selected 363rd overall by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Justo turned some heads in his only appearance in Grand Junction, pitching 8 innings, giving up three hits and striking out nine batters in Monroe's 10-4 win against Jefferson. For his effort, Justo was named to the JUCO All-Tournament team.
Two Iowa Western Reivers were selected during Wednesday's draft. Pitcher Keaton Winn was picked by the San Francisco Giants in the 5th round (136th overall). His teammate, Pitcher Sean Chandler was selected in the 6th round by the Texas Rangers (179th overall). Chandler was named to the JBB All-American team, with the nation's lowest ERA of 1.34
Chipola had one man selected to the 2018 MLB Draft: Edmond Americaan, who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 35th round (1,035th overall). Americaan's .438 batting average and four home runs in the leadoff spot helped propel Chipola to their second straight JUCO National Championship.
