The Reivers got their revenge.
Relentless hitting from Iowa Western mercied the Navarro Bulldogs 15-7 in eight innings, sending the Reivers to the national championship in Game 18 of the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.
With the win, Iowa Western returns to the national championship game for the first time since 2014.
The Reivers scored in each of the first five innings, jumping out to a 7-1 lead following the 4th inning. Navarro scored 1 run in both the 4th and 5th, but Iowa Western exteneded their advantage with another 4 runs in the fifth.
Iowa Western’s batting consistency throughout the lineup proved valuable Friday night. Eight of the Reivers nine hitters drove in at least one RBI in the game. Designated hitter Greg Bennett finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs. Bennett finished the day batting .450 on the tournament.
Iowa Western will play Central Arizona in the national championship game. The Vaqueros won the coin flip, meaning they will be the home team. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. Saturday from Suplizio Field.
