Colorado Mesa Ace Kyle Leahy led four Colorado Mesa Mavericks who were selected in Wednesday's 2018 MLB Draft.
Leahy (Jr.) was picked in the 17th round by the St. Louis Cardinals, after a 14-14 record in 2018. He tied for the team league in strikeouts (85), and posted a 4.85 ERA. His 2018 season was slightly down from his explosive 2017, where he pitched a 1.41 ERA and was named an All-American.
Leahy's teammates, pitcher Reagan Todd (Jr.), shortstop Zach McLeod (Sr.), and pitcher Jake Mielock (Sr.) were also selected in the late rounds of the MLB Draft.
Todd was taken in the 32nd round by the Colorado Rockies (966th overall). McLeod was picked up in the 33rd round by the Baltimore Orioles (985th overall), and Mielock was one of the last picks in the draft. He went in the 40th round to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Mavs recorded a 43-16 2018 season, winning their 7th straight RMAC regular season championship. They failed to return to the NCAA World Series, falling in the regional championship to the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas.
