GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — If you got to the Colorado state wrestling tournament, take a peek at the back of the program (where state records are kept). You’ll see A LOT of “Pipher”… If there was such a thing as a “royal family of Colorado Wrestling”, no doubt the Pihers are somewhere near (if not, at) the top. Coach Chuck Pipher; a two time state champion at Hotchkiss, A four-time NAIA All-American at Colorado State University at Pueblo, a three-time NAIA National Wrestling Champion, and three-time Academic All-American. In the mid-90’s you could find him coaching the Hotchkiss Bulldogs where he led them to the 2000 and 2004 Colorado High School 3A State Wrestling Team Championships. As a coach at CMU he’s helped the Mavs qualify at least one wrestler to the NCAA Division II National Tournament 10 out of 12 seasons. He’s also coached at least one an All American in ten consecutive seasons.
We recently asked Coach Pipher to help us give a quick wrestling tutorial for the uninitiated; instead we got a master class. Come along with Coach Pipher, and assistants Bo Pipher and Tim Romero, as they take us through the finer points of College Wrestling.
