WACO, Texas – The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced their Division II All-American teams on Wednesday (Dec. 8) morning. Colorado Mesa’s Damar’ren Mitchell was named to the second team as a defensive back for his play during his final season.

The Magnolia, Texas native continues to reel in the accolades after a stellar senior season. He finished the season with a team-high 73 total tackles and had three games where he recorded double-digit tackles.

He recorded a season-best 15 tackles and had the game-clinching interception against Chadron State. His effort helped the Mavericks land the top spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the No. 10 rankings in total defense.

Mitchell is just one of four members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference to be named to the AFCA All-American team. Colorado Mesa has been represented on the AFCA All-America team 15 times by 13 different players.

Mitchell follows fellow safety Nick Ciccio who was the last Maverick to earn AFCA All-American honors in 2019.
