GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — 29-year-old Anna Mercado has been in training for powerlifting since 2019. The Special Olympics organization does not have to provide aid for travel so the CMU foundation gathered five hundred dollars towards her journey to nationals in Orlando, Florida.
The opening ceremony is not until June 5 but the accomplished athlete says her schedule is booked for preparation.
“I am training with my local powerlifting coach and I head to Colorado Springs in April to train at the Air Force Academy with my state coach Jesse to do more training and workout with my teammates,” Special Olympics Powerlifter Anna Mercado shares.
Mercado is 1 of 16 competitors representing Western Colorado and one of few women competing in powerlifting.
One way people can wish her and the rest of Team Colorado good luck is donating towards their journey.
