The Crag Crest Trail is one of the most popular hikes in the Grand Mesa National Forest.
It’s 12.6 miles long and has 2,017 feet of climbing. The trail is shaped like a hook and the route type is out-and-back.
On the trail you will hike over dirt, water, and snow. There are mounds of snow that you have to walk over, but shouldn’t be a problem for kids and dogs. Just keep your dog on a leash.
Bug spray and sun screen are a must, because both the bugs and the sun will be harsh.
This hike is great because once you get past the mosquitoes and the forest, then you will get to walk along the crest of the mountain. The views on both sides are amazing, and you get can see some of the 300+ lakes the Mesa has to offer.
