GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Two former Colorado Mesa Maverick baseball players were selected in the 2022 MLB Draft! Haydn McGeary was taken in the 15th Round with the 443rd pick by the Chicago Cubs while Spencer Bramwell was taken in the 18th round with the 532nd pick by the Miami Marlins.
This comes on the heels of a season in which both McGeary and Bramwell were named All-Americans. McGeary for the second year in a row was named the D2 National Player of the Year following his impressive junior season. Although he has another year of eligibility McGeary will be playing his final season at the University of Kentucky.
The two draftees were instrumental in CMU’s dominant 2022 campaign. The duo combined to hit 58 homers and drove in 144 runs.
