It was the first time in the last four years that the Colorado Mesa softball team has had to wait to see if they made the NCAA DII Regional Tournament.
After losing in the RMAC Tournament Championship twice, they had to hope their regular season dominance was enough to go dancing.
It was. They are heading to Kingsville, TX on Tuesday as the No. 5 seed for a first round game against the No. 4 seed West Texas A&M.
This will be the eighth time in program history that the two teams have played each other and six out of seven times the Lady Buffs have gotten the best of the Mavericks.
The last time CMU beat West Texas was in 2016.
The last time the Mavericks made it past the regional tournament was 2016, when the beat the No. 1 Lady Buffs, but then lost to them twice in a row to get knocked out.
The first round matchup is at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9. The tournament is double elimination so regaurdless of the outcome, CMU will play another game.
