Wednesday was a big day for the Colorado Mesa volleyball team. They had their first scrimmage of the season against Utah State University Eastern and the AVCA tabbed them as the No. 27 team in the country in the preseason rankings.
Despite being picked to finish second in the conference in the RMAC coaches poll, the Mavericks received the most votes and the highest ranking on the national list.
CMU had 58 votes, while Colorado Mines had 30.
In 2018, Mesa made it to the second round of the NCAA regional tournament before losing to No. 20 Texas A&M Commerce in five sets.
