Colorado Mesa Senior Zach McLeod doubled in the bottom of the 12th inning against St. Edwards, sending home Nick Borowski from second and giving the Mavs an 8-7 win Friday in the NCAA South Central Regional.
Mesa now heads to Championship Sunday, two wins away from winning the region and heading to the NCAA World Series for the second straight year.
The Mavs were up 7-4 in the 9th inning, when the Hilltoppers scored three in the top of the 9th. The game went into extras where A.J. Landis pitched three scoreless innings to eventually secure the win.
CMU is now 42-15 on the season. They will match up against fellow RMAC opponent, Colorado Mines, in the next round of the South Central Regional. The winner of that game will play Texas A&M Kingsville for the Regional Championship. The Mavs game against the Orediggers begins at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday from Wilder Park.
