Montrose Football’s Tough Mentality Back in 2019

Indians Coming Off 11-2 Record in 2018

MONTROSE, Colo. — Football players on the offense and defensive lines are rarely in the spotlight.

The Montrose High School football team thinks differently. With their hard-nose, run-oriented offense, the Indians lines are the key to victory. It’s a style of play that led to a CHSAA 4A State Semifinal appearance for Montrose and head coach Brett Mertens in 2018.

Last year, the Indians finished their 2018 season with an 11-2 record. They placed 2nd in the 4A Metro standings, behind only Ponderosa (their lone regular season loss of the year). After a postseason exit to eventual state champion Loveland, the Indians are back with experience and poise in 2019.

The Indians are ranked 5th in the first CHSAA 4A preseason poll of the season, as voted on by coaches and media members. The Indians will open their season at home August 30th at 7:00 p.m. from Montrose High School.
