GRAND JUNCTION, Colo — In a contrast to Wednesday’s game, the Grand Junction Rockies struggled with sloppy starting pitching against Orem Thursday, falling 6-3 to the Owlz from Suplizio Field.
Starter Alex Haynes only lasted 2.1 innings in the mound for Junction, walking 7 batters and surrendering two earned runs. Manager Jake Opitz pulled Haynes from the game quickly, and sent six different pitchers on the mound during the game.
After a 2-0 lead for the Owlz in the third inning, Christopher Navarro got Grand Junction on the board with a double that reached the right-field wall. Eddy Diaz scored to bring the game to 2-1.
The contest was tied at 3-3 after Christian Koss smacked his 8th home run of the season to left field. The Owlz tacked on three runs in the 9th inning to secure the win.
Grand Junction falls to 5-2 in the second half of the Pioneer League season. They will host their second and final game at home against the Owlz Friday from Suplizio Field. First pitch will be at 6:40 p.m. and there will be fireworks following the conclusion of the game.
