Stovall a Single Short of Cycle in Rockies Win

The Rockies 21st round pick in the MLB Draft Hunter Stovall finished his day 3-for-5 with three runs and a single short of the cycle, propelling Grand Junction to a 7-2 win Wednesday over the Billings Mustangs.

Stovall cleared the hardest hurdle in his cycle hunt first, tripling to left center in the 1st inning. Coco Montes drove Stovall home to give Junction a 1-0 lead early. Stovall doubled in the 3rd before smacking a home run over the left field wall in the 5th. He grounded out in the 6th and flied out in the 8th to fall just short of the cycle.

Stovall is now hitting .457 on the season. He holds a 1.443 OPS, which leads all 2018 MLB Draft picks.

Junction's starting pitcher Alfredo Garcia (2-3) picked up his second win of the season on the mound, throwing 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three.

The Rockies move to 15-17 on the season, while Billings drops to 13-19. The two teams will meet for the second game of the series Thursday at 6:40 p.m. from Suplizio Field.
