Colorado Mesa softball players Brooke Hodgson and McKenzie Surface, once again, have won awards for their performance both on and off the diamond.
Both players were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-American Softball team. Hodgson, also named a D-II All-American, was named to the first team with a 3.39 GPA. Hodgson is majoring in kinesiology/K-12 education. She won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s triple crown, batting .508 no the season with 17 home runs and 105 RBI’s. Her 2018 RBI total is the second best in Division II history.
Surface was named to the All-Academic third team with a 3.89 GPA. She is majoring in psychology, and was previously named an RMAC All-Academic Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. Surface finished the season 22-1, striking out 144 batters with the third best ERA in the RMAC (2.49). Surface injured her leg late in the season and was limited in CMU’s postseason play.
The Mavs finished 2018 with a 48-5, winning both the RMAC regular season and tournament championship.
