Tigers with Plenty of Senior Leadership Heading Into Season

More than Half the GJ Roster is Seniors

2018 was a season that the Grand Junction football team would like to forget. They finished (3-7) overall, (1-4) in divisional play, and didn’t win any games on the road.

It’s tough to win games when you barely have any seniors on the roster, but that is not a problem in 2019. Although the team is not necessarily deep with only 39 players, but 22 of them are seniors.

Many of the seniors fill up key positions on the team. Senior quarterback AJ Mariz played QB for the first time in his career last season and was able to put up 635 passing yards, and 10 total touchdowns.

Head coach Mike Sirko said that during the offseason the offensive line took some big strides.

The Tigers’ first game is Saturday August 31 against Palmer. Junction beat the Terrors 50-8 to start the 2018 season, so the Tigers hope for an early road win to start the new season.
