Wildcats Still Confident After Week One Loss

Fruita Staying Tough with a Strong Attitude

The Fruita Monument football team hasn’t lost a season opener since 2016, but the first game of 2019 did not play in its favor.

The Wildcats lost to Pueblo West 35-14, scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Fruita has been a playoff team the last five seasons, and went the farthest in the state playoffs out of any 4A Westernslope team in 2018.

However, there was a lot of turnover in the offseason and they have to fill the shoes of four all-state players. They missed their presence in week one, but that doesn’t change Fruita’s attitude toward the rest of the season.

The Wildcats may be young, but are determined to get back to the playoffs. They play the Central Warriors for week two Friday night, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Stocker Stadium.
