MESA, Colo. (KREX) — A 29-year-old Minnesotan man died on Friday while skiing at Powderhorn Mountain Resort.
In a release given to KREX Powderhorn said the man was skiing inbounds in the Thunderbird Glade area following heavy snowstorms with multiple feet of accumulated snow.
They do not say how much time had passed before a lift operator received a report that a man was immersed in snow and unresponsive.
When Powderhorn Ski Patrol extracted the man from the snow he was still unresponsive and was transferred to Plateau Valley Emergency Responders. The ski patrol continued to administer care during the transfer. The skier was later pronounced dead.
General manager Ryan Schramm made this statement: “This is a tragic accident. Our team at Powderhorn is deeply saddened and extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends
of the victim. Our hearts break for them. I would like to thank our ski patrollers, the first responders, and all involved for their efforts.”
KREX will continue to follow this story.
