GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — You won’t find Dorothy, Rose, or Blanche at the Joseph Center, but you will find six women getting back on their feet.

The Golden Girls program at the Joseph Center helps women over 50 find housing.

Nicki Tarr manages the Golden Girls program and she said she, “care[s] for those women as [her] own family.”

Right now there are 6 Golden Girls but there have been 30 total and half of the women have been successful at staying on their feet.

One woman came to the program from California where her home burnt down. Through Golden Girls in less than 6 months, she was able to find another home in Grand Junction.

“They’re just amazing women and we always stay in contact with people that transition out of our program as well, cause it’s awesome to see how far they’ve grown and how they overcome their obstacles,” said Tarr.

Special shout out to Rosa, one of the Golden Girls. She just transitioned from the program to her new home. Congratulations from all of us at KREX 5/Fox 4 News!!!
