GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — So far the city of Grand junction has reviewed 37 completed applications for cannabis licenses and has more scheduled in January, but buying cannabis in the city is still further away than you think.

The next hearing is scheduled for January 4th, 2023.

“The appeal process and with denials, the next step is to go thru the district court,” said Grand Junction City Clerk Amy Phillips, and the denials are what could cause delays. 21 applications were originally denied back in June, and 13 sent in requests for appeals. One appeal has made its way over to the district court and others could do the same, which would delay the final stage by 45 to 60 days.

Oh, baby what a final stage it will be.

Phillips told KREX the final selection stage will be conducted like an old NBA Draft or bingo game. A lot of ping pong balls will be mixed up. The event will be held in an auditorium and live-streamed for the public. As for the applicants, they will be notified of the date and time of the event 14 days before.

KREX will keep following this story.
