MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — The City of Montrose has closed Kinikin Road due to concerns about the stability of the slope along the west side of Dry Cedar Creek, north of R71 Road.

The closure begins Monday and will last indefinitely. Kinikin Road will be closed between R71 Road and Q72 Road.

Public safety is our top priority. The geotechinical report clearly indicates that the Kinikin Road sloap is not stable and closing the road is the only way to ensure the safety of our motorists. We are committed to finding a long-term solution to this problem. Additional engineering is required when constructing infrastructure in adobe soils on steep grades. A topographic survey will be performed.

Keith Laube, Montrose County Public Works Director

The city will use electronic message boards to advise motorists of the road closure and detour information.
