MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — On Monday, Montrose County district officials said a social media message was shared containing the acronym “CMS” referencing two staff members who worked at the CMS school. Within the Montrose County School District, there is a Columbine Middle School that would fit the abbreviation “CMS.” After further investigation, officials determined the threat was not aimed at Columbine Middle School in MCSD.

We worked with local law enforcement and our community based assessment team to determin that it wasn’t related to our columbine middle school. Those staff members mentioned by name are not employees of ours. We also found out the message closely mirrored another threat made against another school in another state.

MCSD told KREX they increased security at their schools “out of an abundance of caution.” The district applauded the student who reported the threat and encourages other students to report threats to an adult or law enforcement in the future.
