GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — National parks and monuments across the United States are free for public admission this Saturday, September 23 for National Public Lands Day.
Established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, this 2023 National Public Lands Day marks the 29th edition of the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort. According to the National Parks Service, the event “celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits.”
National Parks and Monuments on the Western Slope that will be free for admission today include:
- Black Canyon of the Gunnison
- Colorado National Monument
- Curecanti National Recreation Area
- Dinosaur National Monument
