The Western Slope has another sunny day before a winter storm moves through.

Expect a slug of cloud coverage to move through the region Wednesday night, clearing by Thursday morning. Dry conditions and mild temperatures identical to what was experienced Wednesday will happen again Thursday. Thursday night the incoming winter storm will push clouds in from the northwest and early Friday morning, just after midnight, the snow should begin impacting the northwest corner (Mofatt County) of Colorado. This will not be the “Santa Slammer” we experienced during the end of December 2021, but snow will be falling across the state. Preliminary snow totals appear just below advisory criteria with light amounts at this early stage of the forecast. Rifle , CO could experience 1-2″, the Uncompahgre 1-4″, the Grand Mesa 2-5″ with the central mountains looking at 6″. The Grand Valley and the Uncompahgre Valley appear to have less than an inch of new snow and it all looks likely Friday morning. This will be a quickly moving storm and your Friday morning commute will likely have delays. The storm will be exiting the state to the southeast and those areas will keep the snow going later Friday.
