GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Rocky Mountain Open continues to grow in popularity, with the first day of the event seeing an outstanding turnout turn out. This is the event’s 82nd year, making it the longest running golf tournament in all of Colorado. Around 170 players all joined in for the pro-am competition, where each pro paired up with an amateur with 3 teams on each hole. The winners won a 500-dollar Sinclair gas card, the leading sponsor of the event.
today will start the three-day-long pro tournament deemed to be a possible ticket to the PGA.
Players will shoot 18 holes each day, but on the third day, only the top 40 will get to compete.

“Our purse this year is over $100,000 dollars, and what we’re very excited about is that first prize this year is $25,000 dollars for the first-place winner” voiced, board member Vance Wagner.

Officials say this event is a huge economic driver for our community, since over 100 pros travel here to stay this week. Anybody wanting to watch is free to do so at the Tia Rado golf course.
