GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — While U.S. Navy crew members are in town for Navy Week, they made sure to stop at the Museum of The West to check out its Mesa Verde’ collection.

The crew’s transport warship is named after Mesa Verde National Park, and is titled USS Mesa Verde.

The ship lands marines along with equipment and vehicles.

USS Mesa Verde carries out amphibious, special operations, and other missions.

Crew members had fun handling and learning about Mesa Verde artifacts, taking pride in the fact their warship is the first to be named after a national park.

The Navy Outreach is in Grand Junction to inform the community,
but who knew they would gain some knowledge themselves.

It’s a win-win situation.

You can catch them around town all week. For more information on their schedule, head to
